Skills & Solos Update for 2023

Skills will not be a requirement for competitive solos in 2023. This decision was made to enable participation for all performers, in line with our focus on participation and inclusion.

The solo survey showed the majority of respondents were in favour of the Skills requirement (68%), however comments were also considered, with many members of our community feeling strongly that the requirement is a barrier to participation. Additionally, the pressure on performers to attain the required skill level after two years of interruptions was a consideration. Along with the Victorian Skills Convenor, the VCC will look into the Skills requirement for future years.

We strongly encourage all performers to continue to take part in the Skills program as a valuable tool to enhance their calisthenics performances, as the program improves technique, fitness, flexibility, coordination, rhythm, musicality, deportment and poise, along with providing a sense of personal achievement and confidence.
