Nicholas Armstrong

As a second-generation performer, I was born into a family immersed in the performing arts and my passion for the stage has been with me for as long as I can remember. Growing up, it was simply a part of life. I began calisthenics at the age of three, and it quickly became a central part of my world. Over the next decade, I had the privilege of performing every single year and these experiences have stayed with me in such a meaningful way. Even though I’m no longer a calisthenics competitor, I’m still involved behind the scenes in an administrative role and as an MC for Solo and Team Competitions, and I feel incredibly grateful to stay connected to something so close to my heart. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Calisthenics has given me so much confidence and shaped me into a more outgoing, extroverted person, something I truly value. There’s also a strong sense of family and camaraderie that continues to draw people in, year after year. The skills I developed in calisthenics—such as stage presence, discipline, and physical expression—have seamlessly transferred to my performances in non-professional music theatre in Melbourne, allowing me to thrive in that creative space also. Looking back, I know I have calisthenics to thank for nurturing a deep sense of community in me. It’s given me lifelong friendships, treasured memories, and a sense of self I carry with me every day. I couldn’t imagine my life without it, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities and joy it has brought me over the years.
